MapiMailer addresses the problem of not being able to create an email, with selected photos attached directly out of Lightroom in Windows.
It is a simple program which will accept a list of files on the command line and then it uses the MAPI API to invoke the systems default email program. It opens a new email with all of the passed files attached. Once the email is sent (or canceled), the passed temporary images are deleted automatically.
MapiMailer is mostly installed automatically into Lightroom and adds a new item called 'Mapi Mailer' to Lightroom's "Export Post-processing", "After export" list of actions. To complete the installation, you will need to follow a few simple steps outlined in the installation instructions below, or the Readme.txt file which is included in the setup program.
This version has been replaced by my new MapiMailer Export Plugin which is easier to use, and has no more attachment limitations. Support for this version will be phased out soon but you can still download and install it if you wish.

The software I provide on this site is free for everyone and can be used without any restrictions or limitations. Supporting these programs does however take time and energy. Installation Instructions
After running the setup program, it should have automatically added a new item to Lightroom's Post-processing, After export list of actions called 'Mapi Mailer'. To complete the installation, you will need to do the following in Lightroom:
In Lightroom:
-
Click on the File|Export... menu item.
-
Choose the 'For E-Mail' preset under the 'Lightroom Presets' item on the left side of the dialog.
-
Press the Add button on the bottom left of the dialog.
-
Type 'MapiMailer' as the new preset name, and leave the folder name as 'User Presets'.
-
(optional but recommended) Change the Export Location Destination Folder to a root level folder with a short name like C:\Temp and uncheck the Put in Subfolder option. >>> See NOTES below for the reason.
-
Choose the new 'Mapi Mailer' item in the Post-processing After export list.
-
Right click on the 'MapiMailer' preset you created in the 'User Presets' in the left part of the dialog and select 'Update with Current Settings'
-
Click the Cancel button if you are not trying to email anything right now, or the Export button if you have already selected some files to email and wish to do so.
From this point forward, when you select a batch of photos in Lightroom and then choose File|Export... from the menu and select the preset 'MapiMailer', Lightroom will create copies of your photos in the export location, and then invoke your default email program with the selected files attached to a new email. MapiMailer waits for you to send save or cancel the email, and then it deletes the temporary exported files since they are no longer needed.
NOTES
The number of files which can be attached this way seems to be limited by the length of the full path to each file in the export location. I'm not sure but I suspect that 1024 characters is the limit of a command line length. If you use the default export location, the length of each attached filename is huge. By changing the Export Locations destination folder to a small root level path, the path length needed to specify each attachment on the command line will be much shorter, and therefore you can attach more files.

The main reason I have not added this is that nobody asked, and it then will open up a whole set of other options like layout (1 column, 2 columns, etc).
I think that for the plugin version, this is a cool new feature to add, so I'll probably tackle it in the next few weeks, as time permits.
Feel free to contact me using the "Contact Me" menu on this page if you would like to be kept up to date on my progress.

The version you installed and are using (on this page) is old and unsupported. The problem you are having is probably just a setup issue on your computer.
If you look at the yellow box near the top of this page, it will point you to the new Plug-in version of MapiMailer. Please uninstall the version you have, and install the new plug-in version. I think you will find that it works just fine.
